Tom Shields' 1951 Ford Country Squire

Our 1951 Ford station wagon was built in Dallas, Texas, and lived its first 15 - 20 years as a working vehicle on a farm/ranch near Houston.

A friend in the South Texas Early Ford V8 Club acquired the woody in early 1988.  A complete disassembly was required along with new floors, various sheet metal pieces and plenty of time.

We were able to buy the Country Squire in December, 2017, as an 'almost' complete and 'almost' restored car.  We were living part-time in Texas then, so I got busy getting the woodie ready for its big trip to the Southern California coast and cruising PCH.

After much work on lighting, overdrive issues, gauge issues, loose nuts and missing bolts, I left San Antonio in January, 2020.  Other than a new battery in Tucson, it was an uneventful 1400 mile trip - just the way I like.  And, I made it to our EFV8 Club's 'Judgement Day' event the next weekend - and we passed the NSRA Safety Inspection!
